Every year the “experts” gather to determine what color, styles, and other home decor design elements will be available in the upcoming year. When it comes to fabric choices for your home there are several trends to look for in 2010.
- Eco-friendly. Being conscious of the impact we make on our environment continues to be of concern to many homeowners. Look for organic fabrics to be available in a wider range of colors and patterns.
- Outdoor fabric. For the past few years manufacturers of outdoor fabrics have been offering more color and pattern choices in their lines. Newer fabrics will not only be softer to the touch but available in patterns and colors that make the transition from outdoor upholstery to indoor upholstery easier.
- Mix and Match. You will be seeing more rooms decorated with a mix of patterns and color. These combinations may appear in the room or on a single piece of furniture such as a sofa upholstered with two or three different patterns resulting in a casual and relaxed look.
- Color. Color trends for the upcoming year include the ever popular earth tones along with various shades of purple, gray and yellow. Green, yellow and blue are also being seen in warmer tones than those found in previous seasons.
- Details. Fabric that has been embellished with crewel work, embroidery, lurex threads or beading is very popular. Upholstery will include dressmaker details such as tufting, buttons, pleating and welting.
- Metallic. Subtlety is the key word here. Metallic accessories or a touch of metallic fabric in a throw or an accent pillow is usually all you need.
As with all trends, you choose the ones that work best for you in order to create the home of your dreams.
