Duvet Covers (part II)

Duvet Covers (part II)

The average yardage required for a queen-size comforter is 10 ¾ yards of 54 inch wide fabric or 5 3/8 yards for the top side and the same for the bottom if you are making the duvet out of two different fabrics.

Here is a chart to help you figure your exact yardage:

Width of comforter + 3 inches (A) ______
Length of comforter + 3 inches (B) ______
Fabric width, subtract 4 inches (C) ______
[For example, 60”-4” = 56”]
Pattern repeat, if there is one (D) ______
[Length of the pattern design, before it repeats]
*Add B + D to get the cut panel length (E) _______

To figure the number of fabric widths required
divide A by C (F) _______
Then multiply E by F (G) _______

Divide G by 36” to get the require yardage to make one side of the duvet cover; remember to add another ½ yard if you are going to preshrink your fabric.

*Note: If the pattern does not repeat, B will be the cut panel length
Stay tuned for part III. The nitty-gritty of making a duvet.
