Fabric trend alert for 2012: Gingham
After years of seeing exotic and unusual fabrics such as Ikat, paisley and suzani patterns appear on furniture and bedding, a surprise fabric trend made an appearance at the semi-annual furniture mart in Highpoint, North Carolina this year….our old friend gingham.
We have talked about gingham many items on this blog. This friendly checked pattern fabric is most often associated with picnics, table cloths and summer clothing. However, gingham has grown up and become very sophisticated in the interior design world. Just take a look at some of these photos and see if you can spot the checks.
These brown gingham chairs provide an inviting and comfortable spot to sit in this rustic interior (courtesy of enchanted home blog) but also add warmth to an industrial designed space by David Mitchell. Which one is your favorite?

Not all gingham is neutral in color, however. Bright and cheerful shades of red, yellow and blue along with just about every other color is available. If this fabric is just a bit too “country” for your tastes, consider introducing this trend by using accessories such as pillows, plates, linens and ribbon in areas of your home. For example, these table linens (Horchow) and colorful plates can be used for casual dining and get togethers in any style home.
And, while still in brown in color, doesn’t that bow and tulle table topper make you want to throw a bridal shower or garden party? (photo courtesy of the Tip Junkie)
