Learning to Sew—Sewing snaps and hooks and eyes by machine
Sewing snaps by machine is similar to sewing buttons, only you won’t need to make a shank. Secure the snaps in place using basting glue or tape. Use your button foot and a zig zag stitch adjusted to match the snap’s holes. Take several zig zag stitches to sew on the snap.
You can follow a nearly identical procedure to sew hooks and eyes by machine. Secure them with your basting tape or glue. Use the button foot and sew about five zig zag stitches over each loop and then move on the next without cutting the threads.
Cut the threads to each hook or eye after you are finished sewing and pull them to the wrong side of the fabric. You can either tie them or secure them with liquid fray preventer.
