Update Your Bathroom with Simple Touches

Whether your bathroom is large or small, traditional or contemporary you can update its look with some simple, inexpensive changes.

A new color of paint or new wallpaper can liven up any room.  For the bath try a monochromatic color scheme for a soothing mood or two or more colors for wow power.  Creams and muted greens or tans are great for a monochromatic room. For pizzazz try combining something a bit unexpected such as yellow and black or perhaps the latest rage in living area décor, yellow and grey.

Window treatments certainly add style to the bath.  Roman shades are simple to make and provide excellent privacy.  Sheer curtains add a light, airy touch when privacy is not an issue and they can help let in the natural light. If your windows are small you can still use floor length curtains for a dramatic effect. Use shades along with curtains for more privacy.

To take the most advantage of natural light use large mirrors.  Mirrors are especially effective in small baths.

Two panel shower and tub curtains, drawn back with a decorative tie on each side are always popular.  They can be made out of drapery fabric; purchase a ready-made liner if needed or make your own out of vinyl.  A straight fabric shower curtain with a vinyl or plastic liner is also attractive.  Making the curtain with grommets instead of using shower curtain hooks will update the look and also help keep the curtain nicely in place.

A cushioned ottoman or bench is a nice touch if you have a vanity or if you have a spacious bathroom.  Match the fabric with the window treatment or choose a contrasting material.

With a little effort and creative you can have a bathroom that you love, even on a limited budget.
