I have a sofa that I want to reupholster. It has the wooden trim like in your photo. How do I attach the fabric around the wooden trim?
Hi Regina
While it is difficult to see in the picture, there is a line of gimp (braid) glued to the edge of the fabric where it meets the wood frame. This hides the raw edges. You could use gimp as they have done, braid, a self fabric welt or nail head trim, depending on your own personal design style.
Thanks for the inquiry and would love to see a photo of your finished project.
Ah! thanks! I’ve been procrastinating because of the wood! I’ve been afraid of tearing the fabric off of it and not being able to work around the wood. Do you know what kind of glue to use?
Hi Regina
My upholstery sources tell me you can use a regular fabric glue if the trim is not too heavy or choose a “tackier” upholstery glue for heavier trims. Since trim areas do not generally receive a lot of use there should be few problems with the trim coming unglued. Good luck!
