Canvas Fabric
Canvas fabric- strong, durable, and useful in numerous home décor projects. A simple, plain fabric by design, it's not only a home décor fabric, but a lining fabric, a quilting fabric and a backing fabric. Industrially , canvas cloth is used in protective clothing, sail repair, canopies, tents and other applications where durability and strength is key. In home projects, it's used as a craft fabric, and is sometimes seen in window treatments, but is most often used in upholstery. Canvas fabrics for example are often used to create a sturdy sofa slipcover or an all-purpose duvet cover, and with weatherproofing, make a superb patio fabric.
Known also as duck, canvas fabric has an rich and useful history, dating back to a time when it was made of hemp (the word itself is derived from the Latin word 'cannabis,' meaning hemp). By the 1500's boatbuilders were using waxed canvas extensively in their sails and by 1702 J.E Rhoads & Sons, now the oldest company in America, was using canvas cloth in its conveyor belts.
