Trigger cloth is a sturdy fabric similar in weight and durability to denim, canvas or cotton duck. It is a polyester cotton blend that usually comes in a 60” width and can be fade and weather resistant. It is often called poplin or blazed poplin and is found in the bottom weight section in fabric stores.
Due to its durability, trigger cloth is most commonly used to make flags and banners, chair covers such as those found on directors chairs, outdoor table cloths and even some uniforms. It is available in a dozen popular colors and is very affordable. While trigger cloth would not be the most comfortable fabric on indoor furniture, the durability factor may make it a good choice if you have young children.
Crafters find many uses for trigger fabrics. Tote bags made from this fabric are colorful and durable. Window valances in a child’s room can hold up to anything the kids can dish out. Covering a small footstool, lampshades and throw pillows in trigger fabric is an affordable way to add personality to a room. Even a quilt made of trigger fabric will last through years of late night movie viewing.
