What are the important considerations when choosing window décor fabrics?
Drapery fabric has different requirements than say, apparel fabrics or even other kinds of decorator fabric. Draperies are unique in their often close proximity to light, which means that unless they're treated for fade resistance (as most quality brands are), the sun can eventually damage your draperies. Fabrics made for curtaining are also not usually not made to block out all light. For substantial light control, you should consider purchasing a drapery lining fabric or blackout lining at the same time that you purchase your drape or curtain fabric. Drapes can also pose a potential fire hazard, and while most drapery material is treated for some fire retardence, you may want to look for specially rated fire resistant material if your décor fabrics need to meet commercial fire codes.
In shopping, you may want to first request some fabric swatches or samples, or visit a local fabric store.
