Foam and Pillows

While all your fabrics may be lovely, you cannot have a couch, pillows, a mattress or chairs without foam. The foam you choose will improve the comfort and appearance of your furniture and will also extend the life of your fabric by preventing slippage and abrasion.

There are many types of foam to choose from and the correct choice is based on the project you are working on:

• Upholstery foam is used to stuff cushions and the frame of your upholstered pieces. Thicknesses range from ½" to 6" and you can choose soft, medium or firm depending on the comfort level you are seeking.
• Egg crate foam can be used in the home as a mattress topper or for special needs seat cushions. It can also be used in industrial applications as box liners for shipping or protective pads when storing items.
• Marine foam is specially constructed to allow moisture and water to flow through and avoid being trapped which would turn a foam cushion into a soaked sponge. Use this special foam in boats, RV's and outdoor furniture; any where moisture could be a problem.
• Rebond foam is a "green" foam in that it is made from recycled foam waste to create thick, dense foam for use in exercise mats and equipment and can act as a noise reducer when applied to interior walls.
• Closed cell foam is the most versatile of foams. It can be used as a packaging liner, sound proofing, insulation, seat cushions, crafts and upholstery.
• Pillows can be stuffed with down for a luxurious look and feel or choose polyester as an affordable alternative. There are even eco-friendly pillow forms made from renewable resource corn.

Choosing the correct stuffing for your project is important because what's inside your pillows, furniture and craft projects can make all the difference on how the outside looks.
