Pillow Forms / Inserts

Pillow forms is a term used to describe the various stuffing, inserts and upholstery batting used in upholstered pillows and pillow cushions. Like pillows themselves, pillow forms are sold in dozens of shapes and sizes, and in various materials, including foam, down, batting and polyester fiberfill. There are round pillow forms, square pillow forms, and bolster pillow forms as well as bagged polyester batting.

In selecting a pillow form for your project, shape and size is usually a first consideration, followed by the filling material. Down pillow forms and non-down, feather pillow forms, are a higher end choice made from de-quilled goose feathers, duck feathers, or a combination of the two. Polyester pillow forms made from polyurethane foam or polyester fiberfill are a second choice and in general, denser foam is considered better for upholstery projects, while loose polyester batting is considered a better choice in craft projects.
