Mussola
Mussola is more commonly known as muslin and is a heavy, plain weave cotton fabric.
One of the more popular uses for mussola is to make dressmaking patterns. Cutting and sewing the garment out of inexpensive mussola allows the pattern to be adjusted for a perfect fit without having to cut the expensive fabric. The fitted mussola pattern can then be placed on the fabric and used as a template.
Mussola is also used when upholstering fine furniture. It is placed between the fabric and the foam to prevent slippage. This also protects the fabric from excessive abrasion and can extend the life of the upholstery.
Since it is usually unbleached, durable and very affordable, mussola is a good choice for home or theatre projects. It accepts dyes well and can be used in the making of theatre curtains, slipcovers or casual window treatments.
