BEST ANSWER: Yes, the weave is tight but not water tight. If you are planing to make sandbags though, this is a VERY temporary bag, it will be destroyed by the sun in a matter of months.

BEST ANSWER: I am not familiar with the grain process for brewing beer. I use these bags to move dirt, stones and concrete chunks. They hold about 50Lbs,
and work very well. I am glad I purchased them.
