Why did you choose this?
Is this preshrunk? Or what is the shrinkage percentage?
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question! This material is NOT preshrunk. When washing, it's best to do so on a cold, gentle cycle and air dry. That will eliminate much of the shrinkage that could possibly happen. The shrinkage percentage is hard to determine because if it's washed certain ways, it will shrink in different ways. Hope this helps!
What is the best weight duck to make slipcovers out of, and is it bleachable? Thank you
BEST ANSWER: For light/medium weight slipcovers, this single full 10 oz will work well. The single fill 12 oz will be a little heavier. The #12 or the heavier #10 ducks are other options. These are woven with double horizontal threads, unlike the single fills. All are bleachable. We suggest ordering samples to see what weight will work for you best.
Is it waterproof?
BEST ANSWER: This particular cotton duck is not waterproof. However we do carry some dyed cotton duck fabric with a water repellent finish!
is this machine washable?
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I have successfully machine washed the motorcycle cover i made from it. It didn't lose any color or take any damage. I used the 5 load front loader at the local laundromat due to size.
what weights of duck fabric would work well to make durable curtains in a garage which will have weight to hang nicely but can be sewn with a regular sewing machine ?

Worldwide Christian Christmas Boxes for Orphans
BEST ANSWER: It's the best price on this quality canvas duck fabric that I could find anywhere.
Weird question here. I do animal rescue and have a group of large happy dogs that sleep together on a mattress...(2 mattresses actually) with one or two "chewers" in the bunch I am constantly picking up used queen mattresses due to them tearing them up. I'm looking for a sturdy canvas type fabric that I can cover a mattress that they can't chew through without much effort, yet thin enough to be comfortable. Would this fabric work?
BEST ANSWER: I don't think anything would endure "chewers" You might want a heavier weight duck and put fiber fill sheets under the fabric to make it softer. My daughter has two great danes who have chewed through mattresses and sofas, and I think they could chew through anything they put their minds to. But heavy duck might last a bit longer than most mattress covers.
Would this make a good pastry cloth?
BEST ANSWER: it could, yes. drill ( with a twill weave) supposedly is best for pastry cloth but any dense, sturdy canvas or duck should do ok. Research a bit and see what you discover but this IS quite strong and dense. really depends on your preferences . Good luck! ( we purchased for straitjackets for Theatre production )
I need to make a custom-sized ironing board cover. I am looking for a smooth, tight weave, med to heavy natural cotton duck. Is this material too stiff/ruff for this application or would the 7oz be better?
BEST ANSWER: This weight would likely be best. The 7 oz weave is probably looser than you want. The 10 oz should be flexible enough.
I need to cover hay bales for seating. Is this the best option?
BEST ANSWER: There are many options available, but this duck fabric would work too! If the hay bales are wet, the moisture would go thru the seat.
is this cloth good for stage backdrop? also can we paint on it?
BEST ANSWER: Yes and yes! You might also consider the 12 oz duck or #10 duck (14.5 oz) as heavier options. You can order samples if you want to compare.
Is this fabric suitable for upholstering an accent chair?
BEST ANSWER: This fabric is more commonly used for slip covers but if you wanted to use it directly on a chair we don't see why you wouldn't be able to. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.
is it lightweight?
BEST ANSWER: Compared to the weight of other ducks, it is lightweight (the third lightest we carry), but in general it is a medium weight. We suggest ordering a sample so you can get a better sense of the weight. The lightest duck we have is 7 oz.
Is it waterproof?
BEST ANSWER: No, this is a natural cotton fabric with no finish. You would need to purchase Sunbrella, or another canvas promoted as waterproof or for outdoor use. I use this canvas, but spray with something like Neverwet or Scotchguard to cause it to be water repellant. But it needs to be reapplied periodically.
I plan to wash and machine dry before making a bench cover. Any idea on the wrinkling?
BEST ANSWER: It will wrinkle right out of the dryer (unless you hung it dry) but it is super easy to iron and won't wrinkle super easily again unless it gets wet.
Is this particular weight good for embroidery, or too heavy? I have a Janome 500e and float most everything with a basting stitch. Thanks!
BEST ANSWER: yes i think you could easily machine embroider. i made tote bags with it—- after washing it was not too stiff to work with. we sewed pockets on — so that was three thicknesses & it was fine.
also the straps were four thicknesses without trouble.
Has anybody dyed this fabric? I have a faded indigo dye that has worked well on both cotton and linen.
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can dye this fabric.

Trying to paint angels regarding ark of the covenant in holy of Holies. Will this work?
BEST ANSWER: People often use this material to make canvases so I don't see why not. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project. You could also use the primed canvas that is already primed with paint.

Perfect fabric for slip covers
I made 4 sets of slip covers for my dining chairs. I have not worked with Duck fabric before and had not realized how stiff it was. After washing the fabric it worked quite well and I am very pleased with the results.

Perfect for covered patio seating
This fabric is just what I was looking for. I wanted to find something sturdy but inexpensive to make cushions for our outdoor seating area. I’m not super familiar with duck, so I wasn’t sure if I should go with 10oz or 12oz. I’m glad I went with 10oz, because it was much heavier than I had anticipated, perfect for some sturdy seating. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend for true outdoor seating, since it’s not weather resistant, but it works for my covered patio (no sun or rain exposure.)
