This Denim Blue Cotton Canvas is a lovely, versatile fabric that will serve you well in whatever capacity you see fit. Although canvas is largely thought of for its use in heavy duty jobs (like sails, tarps, and tote bags), it can also function in many other capacities. This Denim Blue Canvas has a great texture. And even though it is tough and durable, it is still surprisingly flexible, so it can be used in many types of garments. Cotton canvas pants would be great for working and quite comfortable. It also can be used in upholstery needs, like slip covers, throw pillows, etc. Or use it to make hats, shopping bags, or aprons. The resulting product will be something that will last a long time to come, and stay fashionable all the while!

What weight cotton canvas would you recommend for grocery bags?
A shopper on Jan 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Either the 9.3 oz or 10 oz canvases would work for grocery bags. We recommend ordering samples to be sure that it's what you're looking for.
Will the color in the colored canvas withstand bleaching for sanitation of aprons?
A shopper on Aug 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Very doubtful. I certainly would not expect it to.

Fabric good, color not
I understand that colors can be different on monitors. I do a large portion of my fabric ordering online and this time the color was so completely different that I could not use the fabric for the project. I checked the code after I received the fabric, thinking there had been a mistake. There wasn't. The fabric looks like the royal blue. I did not have the time to order a swatch, that makes it my own fault.

SHRINKS AND FRAYS!!!
In forty years of sewing, I have NEVER EVER seen a fabric shrink so much. I purchased this canvas to make couch slipcovers, as I have four dogs. Unfortunately, each time they are washed, the fabric CONTINUES to shrink. This last time I before I laundered them, I spliced in some leftover pre-washed fabric to try to get the covers to fit over the couch body again, and after another washing, they still are almost unusable - they must be damp and two people must stretch them to fit, even though with the splice it was an easy fit. Additionally, the edges ravel sooooo much that seams pull out, even with generous (3/4") seam allowances and I must continually re-sew the seams.

I spent over 36 hours making two sets of 7' couch slipcovers (25 yards of fabric and 60 yards of cording) and am now MOST disappointed that I am going to have to invest EVEN MORE of my time and more money to remake the slipcovers in another fabric. Non-washable slipcovers are NOT an option.

We completely understand your frustration! The fabric is dry cleaning recommended because it shrinks so much. According to the manufacturer, it shrinks approximately 8%, but it could be more, depending on how it's washed and dried. I absolutely believe you about the fraying, but I just tried sewing a piece and pulled hard at the seams and raw edges. It didn't fray abnormally, so I'm not sure why yours reacted differently.
