Fabric Gardening Accessories
When we think about sewing projects we may not think about gardening accessories. Somehow the garden and the sewing machine are not things we generally link together, and yet handy fabric gardening accessories are easy and fun to make.
Kneeling pads are always great to have when working in the garden. If your knees are young, strong, and healthy, kneeling pads help keep them that way. If you are experiencing some joint problems, a nice, soft cushion to kneel on while you work in the garden can be very helpful.
Outdoor upholstery vinyl, which is also known as marine vinyl, comes in many beautiful colors. It wipes off with ease and resists mold and mildew, making it perfect for covering garden kneeling pads. It should be sewn with a size 16 or larger machine needle and all-purpose or upholstery thread.
Outdoor upholstery foam is also mold and mildew resistant. It is designed to dry quickly after being exposed to the elements. This practical foam is ideal for kneeling pad cushions.
Gardening aprons are another great and easy to make accessory. Garden aprons feature sturdy pockets to carry your hand gardening tools and other items in. Denim, twill, poplin, lightweight outdoor fabric, and canvas make wonderful garden aprons. Sturdy, inexpensive muslin also makes excellent utility aprons.
