Why did you choose this?
What size sewing machine needle should I use with this upholstery thread?
BEST ANSWER: Upholstery thread is an extremely thick heavy gauge thread & used with heavier gauged upholstery fabrics. You need to use a heavy gauge needle with a bigger eye (threading hole) like 16 or 18 (for heavy denim). If you are using a finer fabric & need strength try silk thread with a smaller needle. It leaves a smaller needle hole. Go to your sewing machine manual online & look-up needles & threads for further info. Also look up sewing machine needles sizes & Schmetzneedles..com. I’m not allowed to add http Links to this doc.
Hope this helps! P.S. one unrelated tip not mentioned at these sites is the reason stretch/knit fabrics need the Yellow banded needle which is extremely helpful: The stretch needle tip is rounded vs sharp to squeeze in between the knit vs piercing & cutting the threads causing the knit to unraveling over time.
What size is it?
BEST ANSWER: I checked several of my extra strong upholstery spools without luck! The size is not listed. So I compared threads with heavy duty jean thread vs all purpose. This thread is closest in size to the heavy duty jean thread. Use your strongest needle (18) to sew along with your longest stitch length (baste stitch) & buy extra spools....due to the thickness you get less thread/spool.
Worked very well in my sewing machine on duck fabric. I made tents for my grandsons.
