A millinery staple, Heavy Buckram is perfect when you need an extra stiff support fabric. This cotton fabric is the ideal foundation for many projects! Stiffened with resin and starch, it is traditionally used to make hats. It can also be used to stiffen purses and totes. To make hats, buckram is first wet, and then fastened in place around an appropriate shape. It is then allowed to dry, forming a base for the cloth covering. Many books are available on hat making. Some books are specifically geared to making hats for the stage. Heavy Buckram will help you make wonderful hats for any purpose!

Is heavy buckram the same thing as double buckram?
A shopper on Nov 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I cant speak specifically for "double buckram" but I use this heavy series on a regular basis, its quite stiff and significantly thick. I wet it and block it for skullcaps, or use it as is for rigid hats. If i double it up (wet/block process) I have to use heavy duty shears to cut through it. Hope that helps?
Can this be used as stiffener for draperies that will be washed?
A shopper on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We suggest a sew-in or fusible stabilizer if you want to be able to wash it: www.onlinefabricstore.net/product-group-interfacing-and-stabilizers.aspx?product=stabilizers
Hi there , is this the buckram that is used to court mount military medals?
A shopper on Mar 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: sorry, I don't know. I use this for millinery in hat making. You wet this to make it pliable and stretchy to shape around a mold. Heavy buckram is sized with stiffener. I don't think it's strong enough to make medals.
hope this helps
Is this already starched?
A shopper on Sep 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This buckram fabric is stiffened with resin and starch.
Besides the width, what is the difference between this buckram and the 115 buckram?
A shopper on Sep 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The width is the only difference between the two!
