How to Use a Rotary Cutter

Rotary cutters are made to cut fabric, paper, leather, matte board, and sometimes foam. Rotary cutters come in handy for quilters to get a precise cut.

Unlock the blade

To use a rotary cutter, first unlock it.

Press down on the material

You can use a straight edge or quilting ruler to ensure that your cuts are straight.

Then, press down firmly on the material.

It’s best to use a cutting mat to protect your work surface.

When you’re cutting, it’s safer to push the rotary cutter away from you.

Lock the blade when finished

Make sure to lock the rotary cutter when you’re done.
