Cotton Scrim fabric is a lightweight woven material that is most often used by those in the film and theatre industry. It is used to soften or diffuse the light. It has the unique ability to appear sheer when lit from behind and opaque when lit from the front. This makes it possible to "hide" actors on stage. It is often used as a window on stage in place of glass. This makes it possible for people to stand behind the window and not "appear" until they have been properly lit. Photographers also use scrim to control the light when photographing a subject. Natural scrim fabric can be painted and used to control the appearance of scenery. In some carpentry jobs it works as a reinforcement fabric and can be found in surgical rooms as well.

I need a scrim for my production. The proscenium is 40 feet wide and 24 feet high. Purchasing or renting a scrim for a stage that size is too expensive. Yes, it will have seams, but I'll live with that. Looking forward to receiving my fabric and sewing it together.

Going to attempt using this material for rear projection "hologram" effects. This is potentially a much cheaper alternative versus purchasing sharkstooth scrim. We'll see!
ALEXANDER K on Sep 10, 2016
I work at a theatre and needed something that looked like mosquito netting. I purchased some netting from another company but it was made of polyester and looked plastic and shiny. This should be a good substitute for the project. Scrim is something very commonly used in my line of work. It allows light to shine through and the ability to see actors through it.

what color is the scrim, is it bleached white or natural?
A shopper on Nov 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Natural
Is it washable? Does it have body like duck or canvas? I want to use it for an indoor teepee for children.
A shopper on Nov 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is a sheer fabric that drapes well and does not have body like canvas. It is dry clean only. You can order a sample of this or other fabrics to see what would work the best for you. If you're looking for a canvas, here's our selection: www.onlinefabricstore.net/product-group-canvas.aspx

can this be used for a summer outfit?
A shopper on Apr 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think it depends on what you have in mind, but it's very sheer and lightweight. If you want it for a beach coverup, then yes. If you want it for a skirt or for a dress, then no -- at least not if you're going to use only a single layer.
Is it sold by the linear yard or the square yard? Looking for something I can buy a large amount of to make backdrops for a wedding.
A shopper on Jul 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's sold by the linear yard. It sounds like this fabric would work well for your purposes.
If I dye scrim panels different colors will you be able to see the color through the panel? That is, if I had a blue panel and a yellow panel overlap will it create a green panel in between? Or might you have another transparent, dyeable fabric to suggest in order to create this effect?
A shopper on Jun 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This is transparent, but we're not sure if it would work how you're describing it. It may. This scrim is probably the best natural fiber option. Something like organza or possibly chiffon may create that effect. Though they're polyester, they are dyeable with Rit DyeMore.
Can this be used as an alternative for sharkstooth scrim to create a reveal effect in theater?
A shopper on Oct 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, that is how we used the scrim.
How much do I have to buy so the highth is about 8 ft hight and about 13 feet long across ?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 8 yards
Can I use it for a siliuette screen ?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes! Scrim is often used for the purpose of silhouettes.
Does the scrim come in widths narrower than 60"?
A shopper on May 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Our linen scrim is 57" wide.
Can the scrim be dyed?
A shopper on Mar 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this scrim is 100% cotton and should dye well. There may be some shrinkage.
Can I get the rolls wider than 61.5 inches wide?
A shopper on Oct 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is currently the widest width we carry. For large order quantities we may be able to assist you. Contact our customer service at either help@onlinefabricstore.net or 877-781-2967 Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm EST.
How long are the rolls?
A shopper on Oct 9, 2016
