Why did you choose this?
Which side of the white black out lining should face the sun?
BEST ANSWER: the cotton side is always outside, the rubber side is always inside
Is it thick?
BEST ANSWER: Since this is a blackout lining, it is a bit thicker than more other drapery linings. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.
does the rubber backing have any out-gasing odors?
BEST ANSWER: Hi. I sewed window shades with this in the summer. I do not recall ogg-gasing when the product was new and it is certainly does not have that characteristic now. Good question.
I know that they make this in a 110" width is that available through you?
BEST ANSWER: We may be able to obtain the 110" width for you in a large enough quantity. Please contact our customer service so that they can assist you. email@example.com
can you hand stitch it to curtains ?
BEST ANSWER: IF you are making café curtains or anything that will slide through the rod, be sure to sew the blackout below the rod pocket, otherwise it will be too thick to either slide open/closed, or you won't be able to get your ruffles at the top to stand up nicely.
Does this black out lining require any special sewing techniques or needle?
BEST ANSWER: I have only used a regular needle on a sewing machine with a standard straight stitch. I do usually run the machine a little slower since the fabric is relatively thick.
Is this blackout fabric insulated?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is insulating.
Is this truely blackout? I've bought some Roclon before that claimed to be blackout, and it's just room darkening.
BEST ANSWER: It makes the room pretty dark on a very sunny day. Not like nighttime but would help a sleeper sensitive to bright sunshine. And it makes the room cooler by blocking hot sunshine.
Is this strong enough to cover a stage with??
BEST ANSWER: Yes i think it would work, i use it as a portable cinema screen to project in backyards, and the fabric is very very tough.
It says dry cleaning recommended, but I know it will never make it to the cleaners. Can it be washed?
BEST ANSWER: really depends what the face fabric is- the lining by itself could be washed- if you chose to was it I recommend delicate or hand wash- Hope this helps
Is it white on both sides?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is white on both sides. The right side is somewhat smoother than the other side, btw.
can you paint on this fabric ? And if so can you heat set it with a iron ?
BEST ANSWER: I did not paint on the fabric as I used it for drapery lining. I would buy a yard and try paint on it to see if that would work
I am making Roman shades and am concerned about having the hardware (cording and metal rings) showing through the shade when sun is shining through. What lining would you recommend?
BEST ANSWER: This liner would work well. You would not be able to see any light through the curtain.
Does this material have to be sewn to the existing curtain; or is there another method to attach it?
BEST ANSWER: It is just fabric. You can either sew to the front of the curtain or mount it on a separate curtain rod by creating a pocket and hemming th bottom. I used mine to make Roman shades
Can it be dyed?
BEST ANSWER: Sure, I don't see why not.
I have curtain panels that measure 36W / 84L each. How many yards will I need for 4 panels?
Is this white or ivory on both sides?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, same color on both sides
Can I purchase 5 1/2 yards instead of 6 full yards?
BEST ANSWER: The minimum order quantity for this product is 1 yard, and is only sold in full yard increments.
Do you have 64" width in this black out drapery fabric?
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately we do not. I am attaching a fabric that is a little wider than this one but you may still have to combine panels if you are making them for a specific sized curtain.
Can this fabric be painted?
BEST ANSWER: I haven’t painted this fabric, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be painted. We are using it as a movie screen, and it’s perfect!
Does this need to be attached to another material?
BEST ANSWER: The fabric is firm enough to use alone. I think the room darkening coating should be toward the inside of the room.
Could this be used for front projection on a stage during a performance?
BEST ANSWER: Sure! I don't see why not. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.
Hi, I am needing to make some curtains for 10 ft tall windows that are 6 ft wide. I was going to make 2 panels per window so that would be 3.33 yards in length per panel and 1 yard per width per panel, correct? And I have 3 windows to do..so I would need 20 yards ..maybe 22 to be safe right?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, 22 yards would be good because you'll have to add extra for the headers and hems. Generally, curtains should be between 1.5 to 3 times the width of the window, depending on how full you want the curtains to look. If you use the full 54" width of this fabric per panel, that would give you 9 feet of total width per window, which would work because that's 1.5 times the width of the window.
can i put drapery lining on the back of bamboo patio blinds? yes it is a question
BEST ANSWER: It may interfere with the way the blinds roll up due to thickness.
what is weight per sq. yard?
BEST ANSWER: This fabric weighs 0.85 lbs./yd.
Can I paint on this fabric?
BEST ANSWER: We don't see why not!
I need this in a 72" the width do u sell that?
BEST ANSWER: We only sell it in the 54" width, but it can easily be sewn together.
This blackout fabric seems to be about the same as multi purpose cloth. I wanted to use as a lining and print on it for my tote bags. Could I use this instead, it is much more affordable?
BEST ANSWER: We don't see why not, although this fabric isn't really meant for that purpose.
Can this fabric be hung by suction hooks on a glass window?
BEST ANSWER: Depending on the strength of the suctions cups, it might be a bit too heavy over time, but you could certainly order a sample to see for yourself!
room darkening and insulating
Excellent quality but the white I ordered is a little bit too cool on the spectrum. Would go for ivory or cream next time.

great lining fabric
I've used this lining over and over again for bedroom drapery panels. Blocks 100% of the light, sews and cuts beautifully. Highly recommend.

I am delighted with this my first fabric purchase online - blackout fabric was not available to me locally and when I searched by the brand name online, I located it easily, ordered in the car on the way home from the local store(I was a passenger, rather than the driver) received timely and really like the weight, texture & how easily I could work with it to line my first two panels - it blocks light well - i’m very satisfied with this purchase

Excellent Blackout Lining
I highly recommend this product. Easy to work with and no light gets through it. Perfect for lining the Roman shades I made for the bedroom. Even seems to be somewhat insulating now that the weather is turning colder.
