This 3" high density foam (3x24x54) provides three full inches of high density foam thickness, resulting in a very comfortable cushion for occasional chairs. BEST ANSWER: 2 inches works well, but you could go up to 3 inches for extra comfort if that thickness would look OK with your chairs. This high density foam is durable, long-lasting, and comfy!

What density of 3" foam would you recommend for padded metal folding chairs like used for basketballl team benches?

I looked around for awhile before finding this. HDF is expensive, and I only wanted enough to finish a cricket chair. The foam cut easily with an electric carving knife. I didn't give it 5 stars because time will tell if it flattens out.
