This single filled flat duck comes in a heavy duty 12 ounce weight that is the perfect vehicle for hard working projects like tarps, awnings, and bags that can stand up to quite a beating! Flat duck is a type of canvas with a plain, flat weave. It derives its name from the Dutch word “Doek” which means “linen canvas”. As it grew in popularity, it also grew in variety! This 12 ounce version is stiff and undyed, for a beautiful natural look that can offer an attractive finished product while performing its duties with ease. A rough texture adds to this versatile fabric's all around aesthetic appeal.

Why did you choose this?
What does single filled flat duck mean and what are the implications of undyed fabric? Thnx!
BEST ANSWER: Single fill ducks only have 1 yarn in the weft as opposed to numbered ducks which have 2 in the weft. This fabric is unfinished and undyed after being woven. In this state, it is ideal to be painted, dyed, finished, etc. however you want.

I'm looking to make a tent for the bed of my truck, is this a good fabric for that use?
BEST ANSWER: This is plenty sturdy to make a tent out of. I don't think it would repel water though unless you treated it. You might be better off getting fabric that has already been treated for this purpose if you are camping during the rainy season.
can this be used as rugs?
BEST ANSWER: Our thickest canvas, which is currently the #4 Natural Cotton Duck, would be the best option, but I don't know what sort of thickness you're looking for. We recommend ordering a sample to see if it will work for your project.
Is this good for gesso/oil paintings?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this canvas can be used for paintings. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it is the thickness that you want. We also have primed canvases if you're interested.
Would this be a good choice for reupholstering a reading Chair?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it's a good weight. It does have a bit of a rough texture because it is raw canvas, but washing it will soften it up. Just keep in mind that washing will also make it shrink. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.

I'm looking to replace the canvas on my pastry frame used to roll pie crusts, pizza dough, breads, etc. It's easier to shack off excess flour and roll up and store instead of flouring the counter top with all the clean up. Would this material be a good weight and will it hold up to use with flour?
BEST ANSWER: We think it would be a good weight, but recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for you.

Can the 12 oz be used to be painted on for a decorative floor mat?
Good weight for making a tent?
BEST ANSWER: I purchased this canvas to use for oil painting and it stretches
nice and tight when primed. I would not think it to be useful for
a tent because of its high cotton content; the first rain and it would shrink.
I would think some sort of water proof canvas would work better for a tent.
Does it shrink alot?
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It shrank considerably. I can't remember how much but I want to say around 6 inches per yard. It was a very nice weight and washed well but even though i cut overages, it came out smaller than I hoped. If you can, wash before you cut. I had too much yardage to do that but it was still workable for my project. Hope that helps you out!
Which one would be best for outdoor canopy?
Is this a good canvas for curtains?
BEST ANSWER: Personally, I feel it would be rather heavy for curtains. I used it for tote bags. It works really well on the sewing machine and you would have no problem making the curtains. Good luck.

This Duck is no quack
My purchase: 60" Single Fill 12 Oz Duck Fabric. In fact, it's an excellent Duck. I use it for stretched canvas to paint on with acrylic colors. Sorry I can't send a photo, but it is superb for this use. Perhaps I shouldn't reveal this, but it's priced much better than for the exact same fabric from an art supply source. I intend to repeat the purchase when (if) I run out.

Heavy weight sturdy canvas
This fabric is great for many utilitarian purposes. I used it as a support layer in corset making and period bodices but would also have easily worked to cover my cutting tables and ironing tables or any number of other uses - duffle bags, upholstery. Very stiff. Not soft like coutil so a different sort of bodice treatment when desired.

Happy Canvas Cloth Buyer
I bought this fabric to make children's tents. My first tent I made with a cheap canvas painters drop cloth which turned out nice but this fabric is far nicer and less cost, especially when buying amount to eliminate shipping cost. I highly recommend!
