Why did you choose this?
How strong it. Can we use it in say hammock?
BEST ANSWER: No, I would not make a hammock out of burlap unless it is used as part of decorative trim. It is not sturdy enough to hold weight without stretching out and if something gets caught in the fibers, it will tear or shred the fabric.
Could this burlap be cut for placemats? I am considering rustic Cedar tables with 'cream jute runner' and oyster white burlap placemats for wedding reception table.
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It should be sewn around the edges so it doesn't fray too much. You don't necessarily need to hem it. Sew about 1/2" from the edges then remove the loose strands to get a frayed look.
If they're decorative, you don't need a backing, but if you actually want to protect the table, they should be backed because the weave is loose.
CAN I WATERCOLOR DYE THIS USING FABRIC DYE (BLEND COLOR IN AND OUT IN A LARGE SINK)?
BEST ANSWER: We don't see why not.
Would this be suitable for reupholstering a reading chair? I.e. Durable yet soft to touch?
BEST ANSWER: This burlap isn't quite soft. We don't recommend it for upholstery. You may want to consider a canvas or linen fabric.
I used the burlap to cover my gallery wall and I love it. My wall had imperfections and the burlap covered them all. Very happy with this produce.
