This red gabardine is a tightly woven and durable fabric that is soft to the touch. It features a subtle diagonal pattern and nice drape so it is often used to make clothing for both men and women. Perfect for gabardine suits, slacks, trousers, jackets, skirts, and even overcoats, its 100% polyester make gives it a little more flexibility than traditional worsted wool and better yet, makes it wrinkle-free. Enjoy gabardine for all it has to offer; texture, character, class, strength, and versatility.

Why did you choose this?
Would you consider this gabardine to be a heavy weight fabric? I need it for a costume and will be applying 1000's of rim set rhinesotnes and studs to make an Elvis costume.
BEST ANSWER: Yes. This fabric should do fine. It is a good weight to hold the rhinestones, if they are small.
I want to make a medieval Chinese robe for my son. Does this drape well? If not, what would be a good choice?
BEST ANSWER: It drapes well and moves beautifully. Order sample to be sure. I make traditional Native American dance shawls with this fabric.
Is this suitable for curtains?
BEST ANSWER: It would be possible. It would be a thick curtain but I personally made a pair of pants with this.
Can I buy a swatch of this fabric?
BEST ANSWER: Yes! Just press "add sample" and it will add it to your cart.
Can you make a trench coat with gabardine?
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can use gabardine for a coat. It’s a good mid weight apparel fabric. Ideal for suits and other similar applications. However, it is not weatherproof. So keep that in mind when purchasing. It is ok to get wet though as it is synthetic and will not shrink and distort like wools or other natural fabrics.
I want to use this fabric to make a overcoat, would this be the best option?
BEST ANSWER: You could use this fabric but you'd probably need a lining fabric and a stabilizer to give the coat some body.
Is this Surline Gabardine?
BEST ANSWER: Suraline used to be a trademark name for polyester gabardine, ours is essentially the same just without the trademark name. Our gabardine weighs approximately 9.6 ounces. We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.
If this is not suitable for an all-weather coat, what fabric do you have that you would suggest?
BEST ANSWER: Gabardine would be a good choice for something like a blazer but not for an all weather type of coat. If you're looking for anything waterproof then ripstop nylon would be the best option, however it's thin and would need to be lined.
Is this red gabardine fabric (GAB626) suitable weight for rain coat?
BEST ANSWER: Gabardine is not waterproof or water resistant, we would not recommend it for use as a rain coat. It would work for a regular jacket.
This was beautiful fabric at a terrific price. I will shop again.
