White Cotton Scrim Fabric
- Product ID: 588700
- Content: 100% Cotton
- Width: 60"
Construction: 44 x 36
White cotton scrim fabric has an almost gauze like look and feel to it. It is strong, absorbent and produces little lint. For these reasons you will find scrim fabrics in some operating rooms in the form of wipes, surgical curtains and some scrubs or uniforms. However, it is most often found in the theatre and film industries where it has many uses. It has the ability to "hide" scenery and actors until they have been lit, either from behind or from the front. This makes it possible to create special effects and make items seem to appear and disappear. Use this at your own Halloween parties to hide ghosts and ghoulies and make them appear when your guests walk by, for example. Or drape the fabric and attach creepy spiders and bats. And it is the perfect color for that mummy costume you have been "dying" to wear.

ls this like harem cloth? What is the difference?
BEST ANSWER: Hi,
I’m not sure just what Harlem cloth looks like. This is very sheer and has a definite cross hatching design for the weaving. I’m using it as a base for making doll hats. I will either put layers of it criss crossed or put a layer of felt over it and stiffen then both. It certainly it isn’t a stable cloth at all, more for using as a base or even gathering many widths of it and you could use it as curtains. If you needed a harem veil, this is soft enough to make one. Write more of what you want to do with it and I should be able to help in a better fashion.
I have 100% silk dress Im making & I need to line, would this work or do you recomend something else?
BEST ANSWER: The weave on this fabric may be too open for a lining. If you want a very lightweight cotton, we'd suggest cotton lawn. If you want to stick with silk, silk habotai is a good lining material. We recommend ordering a sample or two to see what will work best for your project.

BEST ANSWER: Both sides are the same. It is how they are lit that determines whether you can see through the material.
Is this good for making handkerchiefs? I am looking embroider on it for wedding
BEST ANSWER: This fabric is a little crisp with a close gauze-like weave. I bought it for primitive doll clothing, for which it is perfect. I do not think it is would be an appropriate choice for a handkerchief. It is neither soft nor romantic And, being like gauze, the fabric could stretch with embroidery.. However, it is excellent for other purposes.
Is this fabric appropriate as a wedding backdrop that is soft looking and can puddle nicely on the floor?
BEST ANSWER: Yes! We recommend ordering a sample to be sure that it will work for your project.

Does the job
I purchased this as a substitute for harem cloth that my regular supplier was out of. It's a little rough for scarves, but with a professional liquid fabric softener I was able to remedy that for the most part. All in all it's a nice, light gauze.

I have been looking for this for a long time. I didn't realize it was actually called scrim. I had used the word several times and no one knew what I was talking about. Another lady had supplied it for my sewing of antique reproduction garments but she is no longer in business. But I found it and love it.
